DEPUTY HEADTEACHER & DESIGNATED SAFEGUARDING LEAD (DSL) - POTENTIAL VACANCY

Jacques Prévert French Primary School in London is seeking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher & Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), subject to vacancy.

This is a part-time teaching and leadership role, comprising: 

  • 50% teaching (English and PSHE/EMC across primary classes)
  • 50% leadership responsibilities as Deputy Headteacher and DSL

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Headteacher in the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the school
  • Take a lead role in safeguarding and child protection as the Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Deliver high-quality teaching in English and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) / EMC (Éducation morale et civique) across the primary phase
  • Promote pupils’ wellbeing, personal development, and citizenship
  • Contribute to staff development, school improvement, and the wider school community

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified teacher with experience in primary education
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and statutory responsibilities (DSL experience desirable)
  • Experience or interest in leadership and school management
  • Ability to teach PSHE/EMC effectively across a range of age groups
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in French; a good command of English is highly desirable

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Primary English Teacher and English Coordinator to join our Primary team.
This role combines teaching responsibilities with the coordination of a team of six English teachers. It also includes providing additional support to pupils and covering classes when required.

Key Responsibilities

As a Primary Teacher, you will:

·       Teach pupils in English
·       Work collaboratively with a French-speaking co-teacher
·       Plan schemes of work and sequences of lessons in line with the French National Curriculum and the school’s enhanced  English programme
·       Assess pupils and maintain accurate assessment records
·       Participate in staff, pedagogical and pupil progress meetings
·       Work collaboratively with colleagues, coordinators and the Headteacher
·       Initiate and contribute to cross-curricular projects
·       Maintain regular communication with parents, colleagues and the leadership team to support pupil progress and wellbeing
·       Participate fully in school life, including events such as Open Days, Sports Day, school fairs, educational trips and performances (e.g. Christmas productions)

As English Coordinator, you will:

·       Lead and support a team of 5 English teachers
·       Ensure consistency and quality of English teaching across the school
·       Contribute to curriculum development and pedagogical innovation
·       Support colleagues through collaboration, guidance and sharing of best practice

Person Specification

Qualifications & Experience

·       Proven experience teaching at Primary level
·       Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent qualification
·       Experience of the French education system is desirable but not essential
·       Experience of the British education system is desirable but not essential
·       Strong understanding of safeguarding practices

Le poste
 
Enseigner l’ensemble des matières fondamentales en accord avec les programmes de l’Éducation nationale.
 
Évaluer les élèves et compléter les supports d’évaluation scolaire.
 
Participer aux réunions institutionnelles, pédagogiques et de suivi des élèves.
 
Travailler en équipe avec les autres enseignants, les coordinateurs et
la Direction afin d’initier ou de contribuer à des projets pluridisciplinaires.
 
Assurer une communication régulière avec les parents, les personnels de l’établissement
et la Direction afin de garantir le suivi, les progrès et le bien-être des élèves.
 
Possibilité d’assurer des missions de périscolaire auprès des enfants de la classe ou d’un autre niveau, dans le temps hebdomadaire imparti ou en heures supplémentaires en accord avec la Direction.

Qualifications & Expérience
 
Professeur des écoles Titulaire d’un CPRE français ou d’un QTS anglais
 
Expérience d’enseignement obligatoire en maternelle ET en élémentaire dans une école homologuée par l’Education Nationale ou en France.
 
Maitrise courante de la langue anglaise obligatoire.
 
Connaissance du dispositif de Safeguarding au Royaume Uni
 
Compétences & Qualités
 
Excellentes compétences relationnelles et capacité à collaborer efficacement avec les collègues anglais et français.
 
Ouverture à l’innovation et aux évolutions pédagogiques
 
Attitude positive, enthousiaste et proactive
