Wellbeing Wednesday - Celebrating Anti-Bullying Week 2023

08 Nov 2023

From Monday 13th November to Friday 17th November, Anti-Bullying Week 2023 will take place, carrying the theme 'Make A Noise About Bullying.' This week serves as a crucial reminder that silence in the face of bullying is not the answer. Too often, we remain quiet when we witness bullying, ignore the pain it inflicts, or dismiss it as mere 'banter.' However, it doesn't have to be this way. While it's natural not to like everyone and to have disagreements, we always have the choice to prioritise respect and unity.

During this Anti-Bullying Week, let's come together for open discussions about what bullying means to us, how seemingly harmless banter can escalate into something more hurtful, and what actionable steps we can take to combat bullying effectively. Together, we can make a difference and stand up against bullying, wherever it occurs, from the playground to Parliament, and from our phones to our homes. Let's make some noise about bullying!

To kick off the week on Monday, November 13th, we have Odd Socks Day. On this day, we encourage children and staff to wear mismatched socks to celebrate the unique qualities that make each of us special.

For pupils from CP to CM2, there's an opportunity to participate in a special "Speak Out Stay Safe" assembly designed to educate children about various forms of abuse and empower them to recognise signs of abuse. Children are taught the importance of speaking out when they are worried, whether to a trusted adult or Childline.

At Ecole Jacques Prévert, our teachers have meticulously developed a dedicated programme to bring Anti-Bullying Week to life. This programme will address both face-to-face bullying and online bullying, ensuring that every year group benefits from anti-bullying workshops led by Perform. Additionally, students from CP, CM1, and CM2 will attend 'Speak Out Stay Safe' face-to-face workshops led by NSPCC.

The comprehensive programme we have in place is meant to encourage pupils to reflect on how we can unite to tackle bullying, both online and offline.

If you'd like to learn more about the NSPCC programme, please visit https://learning.nspcc.org.uk/services/speak-out-stay-safe. Your support and active participation can make a significant difference in the fight against bullying. Together, we can make our school and communities safer, more respectful places for everyone.

Best wishes,
Mrs Weber
