Visit to Hampton Court Palace

27 Jun 2015

On Thursday 25th June, CM2 visited Hampton Court Palace.

Our first stop was the Great Hall just in time to see a company of actors performing a scene from Henry VIII court. Later we were informed that this was used as the servants dining room. Next we explored the kitchen which had a roaring fire and two large hunks of beef were roasting on a spit. During Henry's time there would have been eight spits in this fireplace alone. Lunch was served at 10:30am and dinner at 4:30pm. These kitchens were where the servants food was prepared. King Henry VIII had his own kitchens elsewhere.

Next we proceeded to Henry's wine cellars where Anne Boleyn ended her affairs with one of the courtiers as she had set her sights on becoming queen.

After having explored other parts of the palace we proceeded to the Tiltyard Garden where we had lunch, something the children were looking forward to as many them were hungry.
Last and not least was exploring the maze.  This appeared to be the highlight of the trip as far as the children were concerned. They had tremendous fun challenging each other.  No one get lost thanks to the children. A good time was had by all.
