Wellbeing Wednesday - Fête de la Musique

28 Jun 2023

The Fête de la Musique, also known in English as Music Day, Make Music Day or World Music Day, is an annual music celebration that takes place on 21 June. On Music Day, citizens and residents are invited to play music outside in their neighbourhoods or in public spaces and parks. Free concerts are also organised, where musicians play for fun and not for payment. The first all-day musical celebration on the day of the summer solstice was originated by Jack Lang, the Minister of Culture of France, as well as by Maurice Fleuret; it was celebrated in Paris in 1982. Music Day later became celebrated in 120 countries around the world.

At Ecole Jacques Prévert, the Fête de la Musique is a celebrated school event, which brings the year to a close and to which the children are very attached (some of them even tell their music teacher in September what they want to play at the end of the year...!).

It is a very informal opportunity for them to play an instrument/sing/perform in an ensemble, in front of and with their classes, during which they can showcase their skills and gain confidence.

Participation is voluntary, of course, and our in-house music teacher Agnes coordinates the order in which the instruments, groups and songs will be played. Many thanks to her for putting forward our budding talents. Teachers and children are looking forward to taking part in this musical event and watch their peers perform.

Best wishes,

Mrs Weber
