Admissions

How to apply

03 Dec 2021

Admissions criteria and registration

Each year, the Ecole Jacques Prévert takes in 28 pupils to nursery school class MS (reception) and 16 new pupils to primary school class CP (primary year 2). For other year groups, places are attributed depending on availability. The number of places available in each year group is small. It is determined by the quality of teaching the school wishes to offer, safety requirements, and the configuration of each classroom.

Admissions policy

Applications are dealt with on a first-come-first served basis, within the following priority groups:
  • Priority 1: Children of school staff.
  • Priority 2: Children with a sibling at the school.
  • Priority 3: Children from some AEFE (Agence pour l’enseignement français à l’étranger ) schools in London for enrolment in CP in compliance with the Charter of approved French schools in London.
  • Priority 4: Children transferring from a school in France (public or private school under contract), or from an AEFE network institution, or who have taken classes with the CNED (Centre national d'enseignement à distance –National Centre for Remote Learning) for entry in CP or above.
  • Priority 5: All other pupils, on a first-come-first-served basis.
For CP admissions, a committee is created each year in conjunction with all the other AEFE network schools in London.

If a child leaves in the middle of the school year, the place will be filled according to the same selection criteria as a standard admission.

Application process

Please take a moment to read the Ecole Jacques Prévert admission policy

All applications are made using a  Word Application Form which must be completed and submitted by email to: info@ecoleprevert.org.uk

Only once this form has been received, along with a copy of the child’s full birth certificate or Family Book (livret de famille), including the pages listing the parents and the child, plus the non-refundable registration fee of £150, can a pupil’s application be placed in the waiting list for processing.

What happens if an application is successful?

You will be notified by email and asked to pay the deposit by bank transfer within 10 days.

Payment of the deposit validates registration. In accordance with the Charter for French Schools in London, once the deposit is paid it is impossible to register with another French school in London.

Term school fees must be paid at least one week before the beginning of term.

Finally, please note that registration is made for the whole school year. The school’s conditions for payment and refunds are explained in our policy for departures from the school. Please read this carefully.

Unsuccessful applications

For nursery school classes, if your application is unsuccessful, your child will be placed on the waiting list for the following school year. It is rare that places in Grande Section (GS – primary year 1) become available. However, in CP, we have 16 new places, and by then your child’s application will be closer to the top of the waiting list since it was submitted for previous years.

From CP onwards, we will ask you each year whether you would like us to keep your application on file for the following year.

Should you be accepted into another school, please let us know so that we can keep our waiting list up to date.
