Board of Governors

The Ecole Jacques Prévert Board of governors ("Comité de gestion") is made up of between 10 and 14 parent volunteers. It is tasked with managing the school’s administration and finances, ensuring that families’ interests are represented in every aspect of school life.

Day-to-day school management

The Board is divided into groups by theme based on members’ skills and includes working groups for finance, human resources, marketing, legal issues, health, pupil safeguarding, liaison with French and British authorities, and school construction and IT projects.

Some of its main duties are:
  • voting on and approving the annual budget;
  • recruiting teachers on local contracts;
  • putting in place marketing initiatives;
  • monitoring and supporting the implementation of safeguarding actions.
Members of the Board become Governors and are recommended by a dedicated nominations committee, then co-opted by the Board itself. Depending on their professional skills and expertise, member are invited to join one or more working groups, which is where most of the Board’s everyday work is performed.

The Chairman of the Board is Mr Alastair Dick. His mail address is : comite@ecoleprevert.org.uk.

The Board meets six times per year, twice each school term.

A close relationship with the headteacher…

The Board works closely with the school’s headteacher, who is appointed by the Office for French Teaching Abroad (Agence pour l’enseignement français à l’étranger - AEFE). The head teacher’s objectives are to ensure academic excellence in teaching, monitor the implementation of the French National Curriculum, and liaise with the French authorities.

The Board is in regular contact with various members of the school’s administrative staff, such as the bursar, the Deputy Head in charge of admissions and the Deputy Head in charge of Pastoral care, who is responsible for pupils’ physical and emotional wellbeing.

… and the parents association

The Board’s other main collaboration is with the school’s parents association, the APEEF. Made up of parent volunteers, the APEEF oversees all of the school’s 20-plus extra-curricular clubs. It also handles some major events of the school year, such as the Christmas market and the school kermesse.

The APEEF also organises numerous fundraising activities to purchase materials – like IT equipment - for the school. It also supports thematic workshops to further pupils’ personal development, for example in circus skills, climbing, fine arts and photography, which are also co-financed by the school.

Are you interested in joining the Board of governors?
We are always looking for new members - both to replace people who leave and to meet needs for specific skillsets.
Recruitment is based on a candidate’s professional skills and availability during the school year. Members must attend four meetings per year and be able to work a minimum of one day per month.
Official appointment of new members is dependent upon the completion of a safeguarding training and the presentation of a French criminal record check (for French citizens) as well as its British equivalent, a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
