Wellbeing Wednesday - Celebrating Black History Month
04 Oct 2023
October is here and at Ecole Jacques Prévert we will be celebrating Black History month with a range of activities.
This national celebration aims to promote and to celebrate the achievements, contributions, and resilience of Black individuals throughout history. It is not only a time to reflect on the past but also a chance to educate children about the ongoing struggle for equality and social justice. This year’s theme is “
Saluting our Sisters” and highlights the crucial role that Black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change and building communities. We will be exploring this learning through stories, songs and art mainly during our English lessons. Below are some of the books we will be using during Black History month. These are fantastic books and would make a great addition to any reading collection.
One of the primary benefits of celebrating Black History Month is the promotion of inclusivity and diversity as it is essential for children to learn about the rich tapestry of human history and the significant contributions made by people from different backgrounds. By highlighting the achievements of Black individuals, we intend to send a powerful message that all voices and experiences are valued.
At Ecole Jacques Prévert, we are all looking forward to explore Black History Month also to enhance the wellbeing of all children by promoting inclusivity, fostering empathy, inspiring achievement, encouraging critical thinking, facilitating artistic expression, and building community. Our continuous aim is to create an enriching and supportive educational environment to help children develop into well-rounded individuals who are not only academically competent but also socially aware, emotionally resilient, and culturally sensitive citizens.
Best wishes,
Mrs Weber
