International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality.

At Ecole Jacques Prévert, this week in particular, we are celebrating women's achievement, raising awareness about discrimination, stereotypes and gender parity.  

The children in MS and GS are learning part of the song 'Because I am a Girl' for a joint performance with CE2 on Friday 10^th March. They also discussed stereotypes about girls and boys related to jobs, sports, clothes, toys. During the English Library time, the children were introduced to some books about women leaders and women in STEM (Rebel Girls Lead, Fantastically Great Women Scientists, My name is Malala, Women in Science). The younger ones discovered picture books about gender identity and resilience (My Shadow is Pink, Perfectly Norman, Tilda Tries Again).
 
In CP, the children will watch four short videos depicting the unusual life of four famous women, from the series “Culottées” by Pénélope Bagieu. Each child will draw the portrait of one of these incredible women and explain their choice underneath each picture.
 
The children in CE1 will work on designing two posters entitled « A boy can » and « A girl can » which objective will be to think about opportunities for both genders and getting rid of stereotypes. 
 
In Education Morale et Civique, the CE2 children will learn about the fight for women’s rights and the gender equality. In their Library time, they will read about famous scientist and mathematician women.
 
In CM, during their Library time, the children will read "A calicochon" (Piggybook in English) by Anthony Browne and will learn about 20 women who changed the world. Each child will borrow a book on one of these women to read at home. They will also discuss the place of women in families, at work, in societies. All children also made a riddle-based presentation about a famous woman of their choice and explained it in class for their peers to guess who it is.
 
We will end this inspiring week by showcasing all the incredible work done by the children and teachers in an exhibition on Friday 10^th March, where each year group will come and see what everyone has been up to!
