Wellbeing Wednesday - Celebrating Anti-Bullying Week

06 Nov 2024

At École française de Londres Jacques Prévert, we are gearing up for Anti-Bullying Week from Monday 11th to Friday 15th November 2024. With this year’s theme, "Choose Respect", we aim to foster a supportive and respectful school environment, reminding everyone of the power of kindness in shaping positive relationships.

A key event will be Odd Socks Day on Tuesday 12th November, where we encourage all pupils and staff to wear mismatched socks to celebrate our differences and promote individuality. It is a fun way to reinforce the idea that respecting each other's uniqueness is crucial to creating a harmonious school community.

Each year group will also participate in a special "Choose Respect!" workshop run by the company Perform, which uses drama-based techniques to raise awareness of bullying. These interactive workshops will:
Simulate real-life scenarios to help children understand what bullying looks like.
Teach how body language can boost confidence in challenging situations.
Use improvisation and role-play to provide strategies for standing up to bullying.

The workshops focus on key learning objectives:
Understanding the seriousness and impact of bullying.
Recognizing strategies to prevent and stop bullying.
Identifying the support network available to each student.
Empowering children to take action against bullying.

The week will begin with a whole-school assembly to launch Anti-Bullying Week, setting a clear focus for the days ahead. Although PSHE lessons take place weekly, this time they will center on the crucial distinction between friends' conflicts, banter, and bullying, tailored to each age group. Pupils will learn how to identify bullying, how it differs from banter, and what steps to take if they or someone else is being bullied. We will emphasise the importance of not being a bystander, encouraging everyone to take action and speak up to ensure our school remains a safe place for all.

Throughout the week, we will focus on helping pupils feel empowered by knowing who to talk to, how to report bullying, and when to seek help. Our goal is to ensure every child feels secure, valued, and confident in seeking support when needed.

This initiative aligns perfectly with France’s National Anti-Bullying Day on Thursday 7th November, reminding us that bullying is a global issue requiring collective action. We are committed to equipping our pupils with the strategies and confidence to stand up against bullying.

For parents and carers, you can find useful resources and tools to help support your child during Anti-Bullying Week by downloading the Parents Pack 2024 from the Anti-Bullying Alliance: Parents Pack 2024.

Together, let’s make this Anti-Bullying Week a bold statement that choosing respect isn’t just an option—it is a responsibility we all share to create a safer, kinder world.

Best wishes,
Mrs Weber
