Wellbeing Wednesday: Welcome Back to School - Embracing our School Values
04 Sep 2024
As we step into a new academic year, we are delighted to welcome our pupils back to school. This is a time for new beginnings, fresh starts, and renewed commitments. After a long break, it is heartening to see our school building once again filled with the energy and enthusiasm that only the children can bring. As we embark on this new journey together, we are reminding everyone of the core values that guide our school community: Safety, Autonomy, Benevolence, Respect, and Effort.
Safety: Our Foundation
The wellbeing of our pupils is paramount, and it begins with safety. This is not just about physical safety, but emotional and psychological safety as well. Our school is committed to creating a secure environment where children feel protected, supported, and free from harm. From ensuring that our facilities and venues meet high safety standards to fostering an atmosphere of trust and openness, we aim to make our school a place where every child can learn and grow without fear.
Autonomy: Encouraging Independence
As educators, we understand the importance of nurturing our students’ independence. Autonomy is about empowering our children to take charge of their own learning and make decisions that contribute to their personal growth. We encourage our students to explore, ask questions, and take initiative in their educational journey. By fostering a sense of autonomy, we help them develop the confidence and skills they need to navigate the world beyond the classroom.
Benevolence: Cultivating Kindness
In our school, we believe in the power of kindness and compassion. Benevolence is at the heart of our community, and we strive to instil these values in our pupils. Through acts of kindness, whether big or small, we encourage the pupils to support one another and to be considerate of the feelings and needs of others. A benevolent school environment helps create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and accepted.
Respect: Building a Community of Trust
Respect is the cornerstone of any strong community. We teach the pupils to respect themselves, their peers, their teachers, and the world around them. This means valuing diverse perspectives, treating others with dignity, and acknowledging the rights and responsibilities that come with being part of our school. By fostering respect, we create a culture of mutual trust and cooperation, where everyone can thrive.
Effort: Celebrating Hard Work
Finally, we emphasise the importance of effort. Success is not just about natural talent but also about perseverance, dedication, resilience, and hard work. We encourage our students to put forth their best effort in everything they do, whether in academics, sports, or creative pursuits. By recognising and celebrating their efforts, we help our pupils develop a growth mindset that will serve them well throughout their lives.
A Fresh Start
The new school year offers a fresh start—an opportunity to set new goals, embrace challenges, and continue growing. As we move forward, we want to place a strong emphasis on our core values: Safety, Autonomy, Benevolence, Respect, and Effort. Each student from CP to CM2 will receive a "superpower card" to fill with reward stickers throughout the year. Families can track their child's engagement when they bring home their EMC/PSHE book.
Welcome back to school! Let’s make this year our best one yet.
Best wishes,
Mrs Weber
