Wellbeing Wednesday - Marking International Women's Day
05 Mar 2025
At École Française de Londres Jacques Prévert, we are thrilled to mark International Women’s Day with a series of activities and discussions that celebrate the achievements of women and raise awareness of the importance of gender equality. This day provides a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how far we have come and ensure that we continue striving towards a world where everyone, regardless of gender, is treated with respect and given equal opportunities to succeed.
The Significance of International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on 8th March, is a global event that honours the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is also a day to advocate for gender equality and raise awareness about the ongoing challenges that women still face around the world. At our school, we believe it is essential to teach our pupils the value of equality and help them understand the importance of respect and fairness between boys and girls.
A School-Wide Focus on Equality
Over the next two weeks, from Petite Section to CM2, all pupils at École Française de Londres Jacques Prévert will take part in a variety of activities designed to promote gender equality and celebrate the achievements of women. These activities will provide our pupils with an engaging and educational opportunity to explore important topics, including:
• Classroom Discussions: Teachers will lead age-appropriate discussions about gender equality and the role both boys and girls play in society. These conversations will help pupils reflect on the importance of respect and fairness in their daily interactions.
• Creative Projects: Pupils will engage in creative exercises that explore the contributions of women throughout history, from influential figures like Marie Curie to everyday heroines. These projects will encourage children to express their ideas and celebrate the diverse roles women play in the world.
• Storytelling and Reading: In the younger classes, stories and books that highlight strong female characters and their achievements will be shared with pupils. Through these stories, children will learn that strength, intelligence, and kindness are not limited by gender.
• Art and Expression: From drawing to collage-making, pupils will have the opportunity to express their understanding of gender equality through various art forms. These hands-on activities encourage creativity while reinforcing the message that everyone, regardless of gender, can contribute meaningfully to society.
Fostering an Equal Future
International Women’s Day is not just about celebrating women—it is about promoting equality for all. At École Française de Londres Jacques Prévert, we emphasise that true equality means recognising and appreciating the strengths and potential of every individual, regardless of their gender. Our goal is to empower our pupils to understand the importance of inclusion and respect, both within our school community and in the world at large.
By engaging in these activities, our pupils will not only learn about the history of women's rights but will also develop the values of empathy, respect, and fairness that are essential in creating an equal and just world. We hope these lessons will continue to resonate with them, fostering a future generation of leaders who will carry the torch of equality for all. By teaching our pupils the importance of equality and the power of diversity, we are shaping a future where both boys and girls can thrive equally, side by side.
Happy International Women’s Day!
