Wellbeing Wednesday - Welcome Back to School!
03 Sep 2025

As we open the doors to a brand new academic year at École Jacques Prévert, it has been an absolute
delight to see the smiles, the laughter, and the buzz of excitement returning to our classrooms, playgrounds, and corridors. Children walked back into school with wide eyes, full backpacks, and boundless energy, ready to reconnect with friends, explore new routines, and dive into learning.
We were especially thrilled to unveil our
brand-new school Library, a calm, colourful, and inspiring space where children can escape into stories, spark curiosity, and nurture a lifelong love of reading. Watching our pupils' faces light up as they discovered the new bookshelves was a special moment that truly set the tone for the term ahead.
But with all the excitement of September also comes
change: new teachers, new classrooms, new friends, and sometimes new challenges. At Jacques Prévert, we see these moments of transition not as hurdles, but as opportunities to build resilience, foster wellbeing, and encourage personal growth. This month, we’d like to share a few simple but powerful ways to
embrace the new school year with confidence and calm.
Here are a few tips for a positive start to the school year:
1. Acknowledge All Feelings
It’s completely normal for both children and adults to feel a mix of excitement and nervousness at the start of the year. Whether it’s “butterflies in the tummy” or the joy of seeing friends again, all feelings are valid. Help your child name and understand what they are feeling, it is the first step to emotional confidence.
2. Rebuild Routines Slowly
Children thrive on predictability. Re-establishing consistent bedtime, mealtime, and homework routines can make mornings smoother and evenings more restful. Give it time, it doesn’t need to be perfect right away!
3. Celebrate Small Wins
A good first day, remembering their water bottle, making a new friend; these are all reasons to celebrate! Help your child notice what’s going well, and encourage self-reflection with simple questions like “What was your favourite part of the day?”
4. Stay Connected as a Family
Even just 10 minutes of undistracted time with your child at the end of the school day can offer comfort and boost their emotional wellbeing. It could be a walk home, reading together, or simply chatting over dinner.
5. Model Positive Attitudes Toward Change
Children watch how we react to change. If we talk about school positively, manage stress calmly, and focus on growth, they’re more likely to adopt that mindset too. Let them see that we all keep learning and adapting; at any age!
At École Jacques Prévert,
wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Our values:
safety, autonomy, benevolence, respect, and effort guide our relationships, our learning, and the way we face challenges together. As we start this new year, we encourage everyone in our school family to nurture these values not just in the classroom, but at home, in the community, and within ourselves.
Wishing all our pupils and families a smooth, happy, and fulfilling return to school. Welcome back! We can’t wait to see what this year holds!
Best wishes,
Mrs Weber
