Wellbeing Wednesday - Learning Beyond the Classroom
15 Apr 2026
At École Jacques Prévert, we believe that education extends far beyond the four walls of the classroom. Some of the most powerful learning moments happen when children are immersed in real-life experiences. For this reason, we place great value on educational visits and residential trips, offering pupils across all year groups enriching opportunities throughout the year. From CP/Year 2 onwards, children are also invited to take part in residential stays, designed to nurture independence, curiosity, and a spirit of adventure.
Building Independence and Confidence
For many pupils, especially during residential trips, these experiences mark their first time away from home. Within a safe and supportive environment, they begin to develop essential life skills packing their belongings, managing their daily routines, and making small independent choices. These moments play a key role in strengthening confidence, resilience, and self-belief.
Fostering Social Connections
Time spent outside the usual classroom setting allows children to connect in new and meaningful ways. They collaborate with different peers, learn to communicate effectively, and develop a deeper understanding of one another. These shared experiences help build empathy, reinforce friendships, and create a strong sense of community.
Learning to Work Together
Whether through outdoor challenges, group tasks, or shared responsibilities, pupils are constantly encouraged to work as a team. They learn to listen, cooperate, and support each other towards a common goal. These collaborative experiences help develop important interpersonal skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
The Benefits of Nature on Wellbeing
Many of our trips take place in natural environments such as forests, farms, or coastal areas. Time spent outdoors is invaluable for children’s mental and emotional wellbeing. Nature provides space to breathe, reflect, and reconnect, helping to reduce stress while enhancing focus, creativity, and overall happiness.
Making Learning Meaningful
Educational visits bring subjects to life in a dynamic and engaging way. Whether exploring a museum, visiting a historical site, or taking part in hands-on scientific activities, pupils can deepen their understanding through direct experience. These opportunities make learning more tangible and help children connect classroom knowledge with the wider world.
Our Commitment
At École Jacques Prévert, every trip is thoughtfully planned to enrich the curriculum while supporting each child’s personal development. From local outings in the early years to multi-day residentials for older pupils, these experiences are an integral part of our educational approach. Our residential programmes, beginning in CP/Year 2, are carefully designed to be both challenging and enjoyable, allowing pupils to return with a strong sense of pride and achievement.
In an increasingly fast-paced and digital world, these experiences offer children the opportunity to engage with the real world, build meaningful relationships, and grow into confident, well-rounded individuals.
Let’s continue to value and support these essential moments of learning beyond the classroom.
Best wishes,
Mrs Weber
